1. Four Traits of Success Self-Assessment
With most things in life and in business, there are only about half-dozen things that make up about 80% of the outcomes. For example, there are probably only about half-dozen things that make up around 80% of excellent health (nutrition, exercising, hydrating, sleeping, and avoiding unhealthy foods and beverages) and a couple of thousand things that you could actually do for better health. And, if you master the half-dozen you’ll have better health and vitality than almost everyone else on the planet.
There are only about a half-dozen traits which determine your level of success. Master the traits and so master your success at whichever level you choose.
The same goes for success. There are only a half-dozen traits that make for massive success while there are millions of things you could do to be slightly more successful. I’ve found over the years that this self-assessment from Integrity Selling by Ron Willingham tackles four of the most important traits. And, if you master each of the traits line by line, you get to choose the level of success you will achieve.
Another tip before jumping in is that these 4 Traits and assessing yourself regularly forms a tracking mechanism for your success. I recommend taking this assessment every 90-days with your quarterly goal setting exercise to take your “Success Temperature” and work to improve it over the next 90 days. The 20 subtasks for each category, in essence, become leading indicators for success and give you specific items to work on to get your score and success as high as possible.
Take the Self-Assessment for the current quarter, total, and calculate your average score at the bottom. There are no right or wrong answers and this is just a starting point for mastering your success in hopes of identifying what might be holding you back and keeping your stuck. Every quarter / 90-days you can retake to track your improvement in each category.

3. Prioritize Your Goals
It’s okay to be intentionally out of balance for seasons of your life. In fact, many experts believe its paramount to achieving real growth in any area of your life. Most people, if they tried to grow in all areas of their lives all the time would wind up with little growth in any area and completely exhausted.
Additionally, many people that begin writing goals have gone from having no truly defined, written goals with a strategy to becoming goal junkies. Ultimately, I’d rather help you achieve one goal than miss fifty. The biggest difference between goal achievers and dreamers is self-esteem. Oddly enough, when a person with very high self-esteem sets a goal, they almost always hit it; however, if we set too many or overly ambitious goals and routinely fail or even come up a little short we damage our self-esteem. A great example of this is the tradition of New Year Resolutions. You know the wildly ambitious goals most people set when slightly or entirely inebriated at 11:59 pm on New Year’s Eve which they go on to abandon by the 22nd of January. Each year, Resolutioners tend to set lower and lower goals until they finally declare that New Year’s Resolutions are ridiculous and quit setting any goals.
Start with as many or as few as you’d like. When I’m coaching professionals like you, I typically recommend starting out with no more than six goals for ninety days to include three professional, two personal, and one relationship goal. This tends to encourage a little bit of balance; however, there are times when we only focus on professional goals and seasons when we only focus on relationships. For the purpose of this quarterly exercise try to limit your goals to no more than the 3, 2, 1 suggested or fewer goals. We can always add more goals next quarter or shift our focus from one area of our growth to another. Our #1 underlying motive is to protect and grow your self-esteem and make you a goal conquering machine over the long haul!
